A Hull Crown Court appearance resulted in a man receiving a 13-year prison sentence for mental and physical abuse of a woman over several years.

The crimes involved assault and violation of a Restraining Order, with a guilty plea entered by the defendant concerning these charges.

John Stanley Twyman, a 28-year-old from Hull with no fixed abode, denied charges of rape but was eventually convicted.

The case originated from a 999 call in June 2025 identifying Twyman as the perpetrator of repeated abuse.

The Protecting Vulnerable People Unit spearheaded the investigation, with Detective Constable Jan Baldwin commending the victim's bravery in aiding prosecution.

Twyman displayed no remorse across proceedings, according to the detectives involved.

Police stress that domestic and sexual violence won't be tolerated, urging victims or concerned individuals to report such crimes.

For non-emergency reports, people can contact 101, or dial 999 in urgent situations.
