A man has been jailed for his role in a drug supply operation worth approximately £2.1 million across North East Lincolnshire.

Ben Whitby, a 35-year-old from Fisher Place in Cleethorpes, received an eight-year and two-month sentence at Grimsby Crown Court last Friday.

Whitby pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis during an earlier hearing on 20th October 2025.

An investigation began in April 2025 after detectives seized a mobile phone that belonged to another man suspected of drug activity.

Forensic analysis of the phone revealed direct contact between Whitby and his associate, showcasing Whitby’s direction and coordination in drug supply activities throughout Grimsby, Cleethorpes, and surrounding areas.

Further examination indicated Whitby's involvement with approximately 2kg of cannabis, which his associate, Lee McGregor, was collecting on his behalf.

McGregor, 41-year-old from Blundell Avenue in Cleethorpes, was arrested in April 2025 and subsequently charged with possession intent to supply class B drugs. He was sentenced to 22 months in prison.

As the enquiry progressed, Roads Policing Officers stopped a white BMW connected to Whitby in August 2025.

Whitby was arrested after a roadside drink and drug sample indicated he was over the drink-driving limit.

Officers seized suspected class B drugs from his vehicle and arrested him for conspiracy to supply them.

Examination of his mobile phone uncovered extensive evidence confirming his role in organising the supply of between 6–21kg of cocaine, estimated at a street value of up to £2.1 million.

Whitby was charged with driving while over the prescribed limit and being concerned in the supply of Class A and B drugs.

He was handed a one-year driving ban on 12th August 2025 and later pleaded guilty to the drugs offences he has now been sentenced for.

Detective Inspector Jim Clarke from the Serious Organised Crime Unit said, “We are committed to tackling drug dealing and distribution in our area,” emphasizing that investigating and dismantling drug networks remain a priority for the force:

“We are committed to dismantling drugs networks, protecting those at risk of exploitation, and ensuring offenders like Whitby are held fully accountable.

“I’d also like to thank the public for continuing to report suspicious activity or concerns about crime in their area."

People with concerns about activity in their area are encouraged to speak to their local officer, visit the nearest station, or call the non-emergency 101 line.

Anonymous reports can be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, and calls to 999 should be made if someone is in immediate danger.
