A 23-year-old man from Hull has been charged with a string of terror offences.

Mikka Lee Anderson, a white British national of Morpeth Street, was arrested on February 26 as part of a pre-planned intelligence-led operation by Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) North East and Humberside Police.

He has been charged with preparing acts of terrorism, possession of articles for a terrorist purpose, two counts of possessing information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism and also a count of possessing an article with a blade in a public place.

Anderson is due appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court, central London, on Thursday, CTP North East said.

A residential property in Hull was searched as part of the operation and a 23-year-old woman who was also arrested on February 26 has been released without charge.

Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley, the head of CTP North East, said: "We understand that the arrests and police activity that have taken place may have caused concern in the local community.

"Public safety remains our number one priority at all times.

"An extensive and thorough investigation has led to an individual being charged today.

"We will continue to work alongside Humberside Police and our partners to act on any information that indicates a potential threat to our communities.

"The public's support is vital to our mission to keep people safe."
