A man has been arrested after a teenager was allegedly threatened with a shotgun outside a school in East Yorkshire.

Armed police were called to Derwent Road in Howden at around 3pm on 18 June.

Officers say a group of teenagers were reportedly approached by a man before he threatened one with a shotgun.

A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Several licensed firearms have since been seized by police, including a shotgun.

The suspect has since been released on conditional bail while investigations continue.

An increased police presence in the area should be expected.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Rob Danby said “I understand incidents of this nature will naturally cause fear and alarm within the community; however, I want to offer reassurance that this was an incident believed to be between people known to each other.

“Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances around the report, and I am appealing to anyone with information, CCTV in and around the area, or dashcam footage that may be able to assist with our investigation, to come forward and please contact us on 101 quoting log 254 of 18 June."
