A man accused of over 60 offences in connection with the Legacy Funeral Directors investigation in East Yorkshire is due in court for the first time today.

47-year-old Robert Bush, formerly of Kirk Ella in East Yorkshire, is charged with 30 counts of preventing a lawful and decent burial and 30 counts of fraud by false representation.

He has also been charged with fraudulent trading and theft from charities.

The investigation began in March 2024 when Humberside Police received reports raising serious concerns about how deceased individuals were being cared for at premises across Hull and the East Yorkshire.

Officers later recovered 35 bodies and a quantity of what they believed to be human ashes from the Legacy’s site on Hessle Road.

In April of that year, police confirmed that the ashes recovered could not be identified.

Two months later police confirmed that the formal identification of the 35 recovered bodies had concluded and that each family had been contacted by their dedicated Family Liaison Officer.

On 2 April 2025, charges were officially made against Mr Bush.

He's due to appear at Hull Magistrates later today (Wednesday)
