An investigation has been launched following a fire inside an unoccupied hotel on Fort Terrace in Bridlington.

Emergency services were called out at around 9.30pm yesterday (28 April) to reports of an arson.

A number of properties were evacuated and a cordon was put in place.

A Humberside Fire spokesperson said "During the night we had six fire engines, along with two aerial ladder platforms and our drone in attendance.

"Our firefighters worked hard to establish a fire break to stop the fire from spreading and brought the incident under control in the early hours of the morning."

There are no reported injuries.

Evacuations

A number of homes were evacuated overnight, and some are still affected by the cordon today.

An East Riding of Yorkshire Council spokesperson said: "During the initial evacuation people who had to leave their homes were asked to shelter in a local venue. As in all emergencies people affected were encouraged to go and stay with friends and families.

"Once the venue closed those affected were moved to Bridlington Police Station. From 6am the leisure centre was opened for anyone who was not able to find accommodation elsewhere.

"We have worked with partners to ensure everyone affected has been, or is in the process of being, found suitable accommodation going forward as well as being provided with clothing, food and essential items."

Investigations continue

Officers say they're still working to establish exactly what happened.

A Humberside Police spokesperson said: "Extensive enquires remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

"At this time, we have not received any reports of injuries sustained as a result of the fire, and officers remain in the area conducting lines of enquiry to identify those involved."

Officers are appealing for anyone with information that could assist the investigation, or with CCTV footage, to come forward.

Reports can be made by calling 101 quoting log 557 of 28 April 2026.
