Humberside Police receives 'Outstanding' grade for crime prevention

HMICFRS report praises policing efforts in crime deterrence and public response

The latest PEEL report from His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) praises Humberside Police for its exceptional performance in preventing and deterring crime.

Published today, 9th April 2026, the report is part of the new inspection regime that employs a revamped methodology focusing on fraud and custody inspections.

Humberside Police has been graded "Outstanding" for efforts in crime prevention and reducing vulnerability. The force's neighbourhood teams collaborate with communities, schools, local authorities, and partner agencies to identify emerging issues before they escalate.

Through targeted patrols and problem-solving initiatives, backed by data and intelligence, Humberside aims to disrupt offenders and address antisocial behaviour effectively.

Innovative Approaches

The inspectorate identified areas of innovative practice within the force, including widespread problem-solving approaches beyond neighbourhood policing. Unique features include a collaborative portal facility and increased community engagement via My Community Alert.

Moreover, integrated offender management incorporated into youth work has been praised for focusing on harm reduction and reoffending prevention.

Public Response Efficiency

The force has been graded "Good" in responding to the public, noted for its efficient handling of emergency calls, with 999 calls answered within three seconds. Chief Constable Chris Todd highlights efforts to improve how calls are prioritised and officers deployed effectively.

Innovative practices such as automated processes for online reports continue to enhance digital contact channels.

Areas for Improvement

While receiving competent grades in leadership and workforce management, the report indicates room for improvement in safeguarding vulnerable children and adults.

Chief Inspector Michelle Skeer OBE QPM commended the force's positive outcomes for crime victims and potential for continued progress under its new leadership team.

Chief Constable Todd expressed pride in the officers' and staff's commitment, acknowledging ongoing improvements and emphasising the importance of continual advancement to serve Humberside's communities effectively.
