Humberside Police and North East Lincolnshire Council have unified to address anti-social behaviour in Grimsby town centre through a focused operation spanning three days.

Teams patrolled key areas such as Victoria Street, St James Square, and Riverhead Square, aiming to make these spaces safer for residents and visitors.

Participating in the operation were members of the Council’s ASB team, Humberside Police officers, and the Waste Investigations Support & Enforcement (WISE) team.

Their collaboration resulted in several Community Protection Warnings (CPWs), Community Protection Notices (CPNs), and Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) dispersals being issued.

A dispersal order, provided by the council, is used to reduce ASB by prohibiting offenders from returning to a designated area for 24 hours.

Further behavioural issues can lead the police to issue a CPW, requiring individuals to cease disruptive actions.

Repeat offences can escalate to a CPN, legally ordering a person to stop causing ASB, such as being banned from returning to Grimsby town centre.

Consequences for continued ASB include a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) or fines and potential court prosecution for persistent offenders.

The operation saw one person charged for breaching a CPN, alongside two FPNs issued for similar breaches, among other actions.

Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Kieran Taylor from Humberside Police emphasised the success stemming from collaborative efforts:

"The operation has already made a tangible difference, and the success is a result of strong partnerships, from local businesses to community groups," Taylor said.

Both Councillor James Sawkins and Taylor underscored ongoing efforts to maintain safety and discourage ASB, encouraging the community to report concerns to the police on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
