Hull's rainy weather prompts increase in holiday bookings abroad
Travel agent sees a shift in customer preferences due to weather
Weeks of wet and cloudy weather in Hull are motivating more people to book holidays abroad this half term, according to a local travel agent.
Andrew Earle from Andrew Earle Holidays has witnessed a noticeable change in holiday preferences, with one customer swapping a four-night stay in Whitley Bay for a two-week all-inclusive trip to Paphos in Cyprus.
Andrew said:
"We had a lady came in and said she was all set to book to go to Whitby Bay. She wanted to go in a cottage for four nights so was due to spend £968 to do so. But she's ended up going to Paphos in Cyprus in March and spent £1600 for weeks all inclusive where she should get quite a lot of sunshine and it'll certainly be warmer around about 20° to 22° so there certainly people thinking I need to get away.
"This week is half term so obviously that's having an impact on availability. It's always pretty busy. Lots of families getting away to the Canaries in Egypt and things like that."
He noted that the trend is also pushing holiday bookings to less traditional months such as June, September, and October, when people can find more favourable conditions. This shift has led to increased prices during these months, while July and August have seen a decline due to affordability issues and the perception of excessive heat.
