Former Humberside Police officer sentenced for misconduct over falsified witness statements in Hull
Bethany Hemstock received a suspended sentence after admitting to falsifying documents
A former Humberside Police officer has been sentenced to eight months, suspended for 12 months, after being found guilty of misconduct in public office.
Bethany Hemstock, who served as a PC, appeared at Grimsby Crown Court on 2nd November, after pleading guilty to falsifying witness statements in connection with three separate thefts from retail shops in the Hull area.
An investigation by the Anti-Corruption Unit began in July 2025, revealing that from 31st October to 12th December 2024, Hemstock had fabricated witness statements and signatures associated with the cases.
Initially denying the allegations, Hemstock later admitted to the misconduct, attributing her actions to a high volume of cases she was handling.
Detectives Superintendent Rebecca Dickinson reassured the public that any convictions related to these statements were supported by other evidence, such as CCTV footage, which meant no retrials were necessary.
An accelerated Misconduct Hearing in October, held in Hemstock’s absence, concluded that the allegations amounted to gross misconduct.
Had she not resigned, she would have been dismissed immediately and is now placed on the College of Policing Barred list, preventing her from serving again.
