Hospital theatre teams in Goole and Grimsby have achieved national recognition for their exceptional delivery of care to tens of thousands of surgery patients.

The Elective Surgical Hubs at Goole Hospital and Diana, Princess of Wales (DPoW) Hospital in Grimsby have been awarded "Hub Accreditation" by NHS England’s Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme, in collaboration with the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

The accreditation places these hubs among the top hospitals in the UK.

They were evaluated on criteria such as patient care, facilities, staff, and training.

The national accolade follows the surgical hubs being named the better performing teams in the North East and Yorkshire.

Hayley Briggs, Operations Director at Theatres, Anaesthetics and Critical Care (TACC) Care Group at Humber Health Partnership (HHP), praised the teams' commitment to achieving this standard.

"We are so proud of the teams for their efforts in preparing and delivering the required improvements and standards."

Richard Owen Smith, Chief of Service for TACC, celebrated the achievement for both staff and patients.

“It’s fantastic that our patients are receiving a nationally-accredited service.”

With 123 surgical hubs across England, these hubs provide timely access to common procedures, including cataract surgery and orthopaedic surgeries.

Goole Hospital leads the region for the most procedures carried out and ranks fourth nationwide.

Castle Hill Hospital's Day Surgery Centre has the best rate of surgeries per four-hour session in the region.

Now, Goole and DPoW add national accreditation to their growing list of accolades.

The process involved a comprehensive evaluation against set criteria, submission of evidence to national teams, and site visits by inspectors to observe progress and future plans.

Scunthorpe General Hospital and Castle Hill’s Day Surgery Centre are expected to enter the accreditation program within the next six months.
