East Riding of Yorkshire Council says new government funding will help them improve access to the coast and involve local people in future plans.

The ÂŁ18 million funding will be split between East Riding, Norfolk, and Suffolk to support long-term developments along the coast.

This announcement comes after the recent collapse of a Cold War bunker in Tunstall and is viewed as an opportunity to help coastal communities adapt and thrive.

A spokesperson for East Riding of Yorkshire Council said:

"We're very prepared to work with the government and the Environment Agency and residents to ensure the very best outcomes for our area in the East Riding, and ensure that coastal communities in the region can adapt and thrive.

"Coastal funding is something that, in the past, we've never been able to get. We should be able to help more, and we would like various things on the coast, like more access to the beach would be really wonderful.

"I just think there are so many wonderful things that we can incorporate, but it's how you go about it. How will you get people involved? Because it's the people who know all these things.

"I want people to think that we are here and we are going to help them."

The council plans to work with local authorities, agencies, and residents to ensure the funding benefits the region effectively.
