Two flats in Goole have been served closure orders following reports of anti-social behaviour, criminal activity, and drug use.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council obtained the orders from Beverley Magistrate’s Court on 18th February 2025.

The closure orders affect two council-owned properties in Eastgate, Goole, and aim to address serious disturbances reported by residents and police.

The closure orders

The first order prohibits entry to the property for three months, with exceptions made for officers from the council, police, emergency services, or utility providers.

The second order allows entry to the resident only, plus the same exceptions, and prevents others from entering or staying without a reasonable excuse.

These restrictions will remain in place until 17th May 2025.

Reports of serious incidents

Complaints from nearby residents and Humberside Police highlighted issues of disorder, criminal activity, violence, verbal abuse, and drug use at the flats.

Neighbours suggested the disturbances began towards the end of 2025, linked to the activities of a tenant and visitors involved in drug dealing.

Despite police and council interventions, the severity of the incidents increased, impacting the quality of life for nearby residents.

Council's response

In response to the complaints, the council's anti-social behaviour team served the closure orders aiming to restore safety and peace to the community.

Councillor Lyn Healing, cabinet member for housing and public protection, emphasised the council's commitment to addressing anti-social behaviour, stating their dedication to ensuring the area remains a good place to live.
