Freetown Way in Hull sees traffic lane changes for city projects
Coordination aims to minimise disruption for motorists
Traffic lanes along Freetown Way in Hull will be narrowed, and a section of George Street’s eastbound carriageway will be closed to all traffic starting Monday, 13th April.
These changes mark the beginning of two key city centre projects initiated by Hull City Council.
Projects to Implement Infrastructure Changes
The first phase of the Freetown Way scheme involves creating narrow lanes to facilitate drainage works, ducting, and surveys.
This scheme will ultimately restore two lanes of traffic in each direction alongside cycle tracks.
Simultaneously, between its junctions with Freetown Way and Wincolmlee, the eastbound section of George Street will be closed to accommodate essential pipework for the district heating project.
This project aims to supply heating and hot water to public and private sectors in Hull.
Coordinated Efforts to Minimise Traffic Impact
These projects have been scheduled simultaneously to reduce their impact on road users.
Motorists can expect planned diversions via Wilberforce Drive, Lowgate, and the A63 to Great Union Street.
Public transport services affected include Stagecoach service 10 and East Yorkshire services 24, 75, and 277.
In addition, National Highways has delayed its planned slip road closure at Market Place to alleviate congestion during the George Street works.
A subsequent three-week closure on George Street’s westbound carriageway will occur from Tuesday, 5th May, with the roadworks scheduled for completion on Sunday, 24th May.
Chris Jackson, director for regeneration and partnerships at Hull City Council, expressed gratitude to road users for their patience during the ongoing work.
