Fourth man sentenced in Grimsby arson case
Matthew Somerfield jailed for role in planned vehicle fires
Matthew Somerfield, 39, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for encouraging or assisting in the arson of five vehicles in Grimsby last year.
Somerfield's sentence follows guilty pleas from Jason Gladding, David Maddison, and Gary Mills, earlier in July.
The incident occurred on 14th October 2025, when vehicles in a car park on Barmouth Drive were deliberately set ablaze.
Fortunately, no injuries resulted, but the targeted attack sparked significant concern in the local community.
Detectives utilized CCTV footage to identify culprits, linking Somerfield to the crime via petrol can purchases shortly before the fires.
Detective Constable Barnard emphasized the severity and planned nature of the crime, noting the lack of empathy shown by the offenders.
The investigation underscores the commitment to holding all parties involved in criminal acts accountable, with efforts focused on ensuring community safety and justice for victims.
