A man has been jailed for two years and three months after seriously assaulting another man with a table leg in Grimsby.

Daniel Trushell, 38, of Oxford Street, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent.

He was sentenced to 27 months in prison at Grimsby Crown Court on Monday (28 September).

The court heard the victim was found seriously injured on Freeman Street on 1 November 2023 by a member of the public.

He was taken to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries.

Police later identified CCTV showing three men entering an address on Heneage Road.

Around 20 minutes later, a man was seen staggering out of the property seriously injured.

A search of the address found signs of an assault and a wooden table leg was seized.

Trushell was originally charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, but later pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of GBH without intent.

Investigating Officer Craig Chapman said: “I would like to thank everyone involved in this investigation including those who gave statements, the member of the public who made call to police and every police officer and member of staff involved in the long and complex investigation.

“Daniel Trushell brutally attacked a man known to him following a brief altercation in an address on Henage Road, Grimsby. He caused significant serious injuries to the man using the wooden leg of a table."

He added: “We will continue to take all reports of assault and violence seriously and ensure that offenders like Trushell face the consequences of their actions. Violent crime will not be tolerated in our communities.”
