North East Lincolnshire Council has kicked off its 16 Days of Action, calling on the community to confront the impact of violence against women and girls.

Portfolio Holder Cllr Ron Shepherd said the campaign is a crucial moment to reflect and take action.

“White Ribbon Day is incredibly important to us, that we are committing to the community to come together and reflect on the impacts of violence against women and girls.”

A candlelit vigil will take place on the steps of Grimsby Town Hall at 4:30pm on Tuesday 25th November to honour victims and stand with survivors.

“It’s a time of reflection… for those who have been victims of crime and have been harmed.”

Violence against women and girls makes up 21% of all crime in North East Lincolnshire.

Central to the White Ribbon campaign is involving men and boys in prevention.

“It encompasses everybody… and it is everybody’s responsibility to ensure that they all feel safe within the community.”

The council, now a White Ribbon accredited organisation, says preventing abuse is a shared duty - and one it will continue to push throughout the 16-day campaign.
