Two men and a woman have been sentenced to six years in prison each for their roles in the kidnap and assault of a 56-year-old man in Cottingham.

24-year-old Mohammed Hussain, 26-year-old Toma Vitkauskaite, and 25-year-old Emilio Romano all previously pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and assault.

Officers say they received an anonymous call on 19th June 2025 that a man had been kidnapped and assaulted by a group of people the previous day.

Officers went to visit the named man at his house and found him with serious injuries. He was hospitalised with pneumonia and other injuries.

Investigations found that the victim was contacted by a woman, Toma Vitkauskaite, who asked him to come round to her home on Eppleworth Road in Cottingham.

He went to her house and when trying to leave, he was grabbed and dragged into a nearby garage service pit by a group of men who were also there.

He was assaulted with a hammer and other weapons for hours.

The victim was left imprisoned overnight, for around eight hours.

Videos were found on Vitkauskaite's phone of the victim being abused.

Later searches of the property revealed multiple firearms and weapons in different rooms of the house.

A "harrowing kidnap and attack"

Detective Constable Simon Holmes, who led the investigations said: “These individuals subjected a man to a horrific level of violence and trauma in a targeted and premeditated attack that left him in a life-threatening condition where he spent five days in critical condition as a result of his injuries.

“Despite the severity of the injuries he sustained, it is fortunate that man was able to leave the address, and thankfully, he has since made a full recovery from his injuries. I am pleased that those responsible will face the consequences for the role they played in this harrowing kidnap and attack.

“The weapons located from the property that night highlighted the level of injury they were willing and intending to further inflict on the man if he was not able to escape."
