A man and woman have been sentenced following a drugs investigation that began after a series of suspected overdoses in Grimsby.

Matthew Cooper, 27, of David Street, Grimsby, has been jailed for three years and eight months.

Shadan Meadows, 33, of Leads Road, Hull, has been given a 22-month jail sentence, suspended for two years.

They both admitted to being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

The investigation

Police began investigating in January after a number of people were hospitalised after being found unresponsive.

They were believed to have overdosed on heroin and a synthetic amphetamine.

A number of arrests were made and suspected drugs seized in the weeks following.

Officers went to Cooper's house on 28 January 2026 to arrest him.

They searched his home and found cocaine, heroin, cash and drug paraphernalia.

Analysis of his phone showed he played a significant role in the drug supply network and linked Meadows to him, leading to her arrest.

"The danger they have posed as a result of their actions cannot be underestimated."

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Tom Kelly, who led the investigation, said: “Cooper and Meadows have been identified as being part of an organised crime group responsible for supplying heroin and cocaine at street level across Grimsby, and messages from Cooper’s device in particular suggest he often utilises multiple other people in the dealing, prepping, and bagging up of the drugs for forward supply.

“Whilst no confirmed contaminated drugs were found as part of this particular investigation into Cooper and Meadows, the danger they have posed as a result of their actions cannot be underestimated.

“Drug supply continues to cause significant harm in our communities and crimes of this nature are often linked to exploitation and wider criminality."
