£600,000 road improvement programme to begin across Beverley
Road closures are planned at seven locations as resurfacing work gets underway next month
A £600,000 programme of road improvements is set to begin across Beverley.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council says the work will start on Monday 3 August and is expected to take around nine weeks, depending on the weather.
Seven roads across the town will be resurfaced, with some kerbs and footpaths also being repaired.
The work will take place at:
- New Walkergate, between Norwood and Morton Lane, and Sow Hill Road, between Ladygate and New Walkergate – due to start on 3 August for two weeks
- Champney Road, between Lairgate and Cross Street – due on 14 August for one week
- Grovehill Road and Railway Street, between New Walkergate to the level crossing at Beverley Station – due on 19 August for two weeks
- Sample Avenue – due on 1 September for four weeks
- York Road, between Severn Corners Lane and North Bar Without – due on 23 September for one week
Most of the work will be carried out on an evening and into the night, Monday to Friday, with road closures and signed diversion routes in place.
The only daytime work will be on Sample Avenue, where closures will be in place from 8am until 5pm on weekdays.
Between 7pm and midnight, while work is taking place on New Walkergate and Sow Hill Road, Beverley Bus Station will be closed.
Alternative bus stops will be available on Manor Road.
Bus passengers are being advised to check with East Yorkshire Buses for any temporary service changes too.
Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “The road surfaces on these busy roads do need improving and we are glad we’ve been able to schedule the vast majority of these for evening works, to minimise traffic disruption as much as we can.”
