Beverley recycling centre evacuated after old artillery shell discovered
The centre was shut early and an explosives team called in.
A recycling centre in Beverley was evacuated on Sunday after staff discovered what looked like a munitions shell in one of the skips.
The site on Weel Road was closed early as a precaution, and an explosives team was called in
They found it was a decommissioned shell and took it away, with the council urging people to contact police if they need to get rid of anything similar.
A spokesperson for East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: “We would urge people with any munitions to contact police for disposal advice, as any would need to be certified, rather than taking them to a household waste recycling site.”
