A man from Beverley has been sentenced to 10 years in prison following his conviction for raping a woman as she slept.

His sentencing took place at Grimsby Crown Court on Monday, 13th April 2026.

54 year old Reuben Wilson, from Minster Avenue, was initially charged with rape in November 2023.

He was found guilty in December 2025, after a trial that lasted six days.

Alongside his prison sentence, Wilson has been given an indefinite restraining order and will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Investigation and trial

According to Detective Sergeant Stacey Suffield from the Protecting Vulnerable People Unit, the investigation into Wilson's crime has been lengthy and complex.

Wilson's refusal to admit his guilt and his absence from several court appearances prolonged the process.

These delays exacerbated the emotional impact on the victim, who DS Suffield commended for her bravery in reporting the crime.

She said, "Wilson preyed on the woman, raping her as she slept. The trauma and emotional damage he caused will undoubtedly stay with her for the rest of her life."

DS Suffield emphasised the efforts made by specialist trained officers and partnering agencies to support victims and hold offenders accountable.

"Our advice to any victim of sexual offences is to speak to us when you are ready," DS Suffield said.

She encouraged anyone who suspects crimes of this nature to report them via the non-emergency number 101.
