Beverley couple fined over persistent dog barking
Court finds couple guilty after complaints from neighbours
A couple from Molescroft, Beverley, have been fined a total of £3,300 for failing to adhere to a Community Protection Notice regarding the persistent noise caused by their barking dogs.
Mark Steeksma and Emma Bennett were found guilty of six counts of breaching the notice at Beverley Magistrate Court on Wednesday 19th August, although they did not attend proceedings.
Each has been ordered to pay £1,649, which includes a £660 fine, £725 in costs, and a £264 victim surcharge.
The East Riding of Yorkshire Council investigated the matter following complaints from neighbours and issued Community Protection Notices in July 2025 under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.
Despite receiving warning letters and Fixed Penalty Notices, the problem continued, leading to several monitoring visits and the eventual prosecution.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council Cabinet Member for Housing and Public Protection, Councillor Lyn Healing, said: “We are committed to maintaining our region as a good place to live, and taking robust action against antisocial behaviour.
“The council will use all available options in its attempts to resolve issues and improve lives for residents.”
