Annual Hornsea New Year's swim cancelled due to safety concerns
A decision has been made.
The annual charity sea swim in aid of Hornsea Inshore Rescue will not be going ahead following the deaths earlier this year of four people off the Yorkshire coast.
The organisation which organises the New Year's Day Swim in Hornsea, released a statement saying they had made "The difficult decision, to discontinue our annual New Year's Day Swim."
Earlier this year in two separate incidents 15-year-old Grace Keeling, her mother Sarah and passerby Mark Ratcliffe died in the sea off Withernsea, while 13 year-old Abdi Zubeir drowned at Hornsea.
The groups statement went onto say.
"As a lifesaving organisation, our first responsibility must always be the safety of our community. This has not been an easy decision, but we firmly believe it is the right one.
"No amount of fundraising is worth risking a life."
