A 17-year-old has been jailed for his involvement in a fatal stabbing in Braunstone Frith earlier this year.

(10 October).

Police were called to an address in Oakdale Close just after 10.40pm on 9 April following a report a man had been stabbed.

The man – 35-year-old Louis Howard – was pronounced dead at the scene by the East Midlands Ambulance Service. A post-mortem examination later confirmed that Mr Howard died from a stab wound injury.

When officers arrived at the address in Oakdale Close the youth was not there, but he was located nearby shortly afterwards and arrested by police.

Two women aged 34 and 32 were also arrested as part of the investigation and released on bail. Following further enquiries into the circumstances of the incident, the two women were also charged in connection with the incident.

A trial began at Leicester Crown Court but on 23 September, the 17-year-old pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter which was accepted by the prosecution counsel. The 34-year-old woman also pleaded guilty to assisting an offender.

The following day (24 September), the 32-year-old woman also pleaded guilty to assisting an offender. Today:

The 17-year-old was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment

The 34-year-old was sentenced to 21 months’ imprisonment

The 32-year-old was sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment

Detective Inspector Mike Chandler, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit’s (EMSOU) major crime team, was the senior investigating officer. He said: “I’m pleased all parties in this case admitted their involvement in this tragic incident towards the beginning of the trial.

“While I know a prison sentence will not bring Mr Howard back, I hope this outcome provides a degree of closure and allows them to move on as best they can.”

Following Friday’s (10 October) sentencing, the family of Louis Howard have released the following statement:

“Louis, this marks the end of further destruction after months of torment and now you can rest peacefully. Our pain will never end until we meet again.

“Until then our gentle, kind, thoughtful son and brother, we will concentrate on keeping safe what’s left behind.

“Treasure our moments of your love of music, your animals and your family.”
