Police have been granted extra time to question a suspect following a fatal shooting in Nottingham.

A 24-year-old man was shot at a property in Ryeland Gardens in The Meadows shortly after 5:30am on Saturday (28 Feb). He was treated at the scene but died a short time later.

Police seized a shotgun within minutes or arriving and a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder that day.

He has since been arrested on suspicion of possessing a shotgun, assaulting an emergency worker, and a public order offence.

Detective Inspector Clare Gibson, who is overseeing the investigation, said:

“Our sympathies are with the victim’s family and friends at this difficult time, and they are being supported by our specially trained officers.

“I’d like to reassure residents that we believe this is an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public.

“We have now been granted extra time to continue questioning a suspect as part of our investigation and our inquiries are still ongoing, so we’d ask anyone who has any information but hasn’t shared it with us yet to please do so immediately.

“Officers will be carrying out additional patrols in the area and residents can expect to see an increased police presence while our inquiries continue.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 116 of 28 February 2026, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
