Rapist jailed for 34 years after attempted murder conviction in Loughborough
The victim was attacked on a canal towpath near Belton Road last year
Macauley Worden has been sentenced to 34 years in prison for attempted murder, rape, sexual assault, and robbery, following his conviction in April.
Worden carried out the attack on a canal towpath near Belton Road in Loughborough during the early hours of 30th August last year.
The victim was approached, assaulted, and subjected to a violent attack, including rape and attempted strangulation, before Worden fled with the victim's phone and wallet.
Worden, a 28-year-old with no fixed abode, was found and arrested days later on the 3rd September.
Today at Leicester Crown Court, Worden was placed on the sex offender register indefinitely and given an indefinite restraining order against contacting the victim.

The Investigation
Detective Inspector Majid Zaveri led the investigation, supported by Signal, a specialist rape and serious sexual assault team.
Zaveri praised the victim's resilience throughout the legal process.
"I hope the sentence passed today has provided the victim with a degree of closure which will allow them to move on with their life," Zaveri said.
Detective Constable Chris Fox emphasised the zero-tolerance approach to sexual offences.
"Today’s sentence shows that the courts also take a similar approach and will ensure that those responsible are locked up for a significant amount of time, meaning that they cannot cause harm to our communities," Fox said.
Fox encouraged victims of sexual offences to come forward and seek justice.
The court's decision comes after a trial lasting six days, where evidence was presented that secured Worden’s conviction.
