Police have released images of several young people they want to speak to following a reported attack on two 13-year-old girls in a city centre alleyway.

Police say the incident took place shortly after 4pm on Saturday, June 27, near Clumber Street.

The girls were in the city centre when they were allegedly followed by a group of young people and forced into an alleyway.

The victims were then said to have been punched and kicked in the face and head. Police say the assault was also recorded by someone within the group.

Following the attack, the girls sought safety inside Primark before police were contacted.

Both girls suffered concussion, as well as bruising to their faces and heads.

Officers investigating the incident have now released images of several people who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

They are appealing to members of the public who may recognise anyone pictured or have information about what happened to come forward.

PC Ryan Prince, who is investigating the incident, said:

"This was a cruel and vicious attack on two young girls just enjoying their time in the city.

"They were forcefully taken down an alleyway, out of view of others, where they were attacked for no reason whatsoever.

"Those responsible even took delight in filming the attack on their mobile phone.

"As you can imagine, the attack has left a devastating impact on both victims.

"We are determined to find those responsible and have already carried out a number of lines of inquiry since the incident occurred, but no arrests have been made yet.

"We are now appealing to the public for information. We believe those pictured will have information that could help us with our investigation."
