Police have made an arrest in connection with a crossbow incident in Newark

Police have made an arrest after a 17-year-old boy was reportedly threatened with a crossbow in Newark.

Officers were called out to London Road after concerns a teenager had fallen from his moped.

It's believed he was threatened with a weapon before he fell.

The teenager suffered non life altering leg injuries.

Armed police joined officers at around 4pm on Friday afternoon (23rd August).

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

Inspector Alice Bartle, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

ā€œThankfully, the rider involved in this incident wasn’t more seriously hurt after coming off his moped, having reportedly been threatened with a crossbow.

ā€œThere is absolutely no excuse for anyone to ever carry an offensive weapon of this nature out in a public setting.

ā€œWe are still in the process of investigating this incident, so would ask anyone who saw what happened or has any other information to get in touch with us.

ā€œThis can be reported to the police via 101, quoting incident 491 of 23 August 2024, or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.ā€
