Police have launched an investigation after an armed robbery at a shop in New Parks during the early hours of this morning (02 July).

Officers were called to the premises at around 7.08am on Thursday, 2 July, following reports that two masked men entered the store and threatened employees.

According to police, one of the suspects was believed to be carrying a handgun. During the incident, a member of staff was struck on the head, suffering minor injuries.

The offenders fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, heading in the direction of Samson Road.

Detectives are continuing their enquiries into the robbery.

Detective Inspector Graeme Baxter from our Complex Investigation Team (CIT), said: “Officers remain the scene this morning carrying out enquiries which include forensic examination and reviewing CCTV.

“We continue to investigate an armed robbery at a bookmakers on Sunday evening in Glenfield and believe due to the similarities and proximity to both incidents, that they could be linked.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen something connected to this incident to please get in touch. Did you see two men in the area beforehand acting suspiciously? Did you see where the men went when they left the store?

“Footage from doorbells, dashcams or CCTV may have also captured something so please if you live locally, please check your devices.

“Any information you may have could be essential to our enquiries so please come forward if you can help.”
