Nottinghamshire officers guilty of gross misconduct following domestic incident
Two police officers in Nottinghamshire have been found guilty of gross misconduct.
Two police officers who failed to conduct their duty when they attended a domestic abuse incident have been found to have committed gross misconduct.
Police Constable Thomas Lee-Storey and former PC Amy Jowett were called to an address in St Ann's in Nottingham, where a woman reported her granddaughter had been threatening her.
However, following further contact from the woman, a hearing found a lack of safeguarding and failure to record crimes.
The panel found that the officers had both breached the standard of professional behaviour relating to duties and responsibilities and orders and instructions.
It also found that former PC Jowett had breached the standard of authority, respect and courtesy.
PC Lee-Storey was given a five-year final written warning, and former PC Jowett would have received the same sanction if she had not already resigned from the force.
The misconduct hearing was told that both officers felt remorseful for the way they handled the incident and there was no deliberate or dishonest wrongdoing by either officer.
After the hearing, Chief Constable Steve Cooper said: “The victim disclosed a number of allegations to the officers when they attended the address.
“It was vitally important that they not only responded to those allegations but also recorded them properly on police systems.
"Their collective response was wholly inadequate and both failed to approach the incident with an investigative mindset.
"The actions of individual officers can tarnish the reputation of a force and the service as a whole and undermine the trust and confidence that members of the public have in Nottinghamshire Police."
