Nottinghamshire PCC tells us knife crime in region has gone down

That's despite a recent number of incidents in the city

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire tells us knife crime in the region has gone down year-on-year, despite a recent number of incidents in the city.

It's after eight people were arrested in connection with a reported stabbing at a house party in Hounds Gate in Nottingham on Friday night (28/02).

Emergency services were called to the incident at an address in Hounds Gate, Nottingham, shortly after 11.40pm, Nottinghamshire Police said.

We're told a number of weapons have also been seized from the address.

The stab victim is continuing to recover with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, a 16 year old boy has pleaded guilty following a stabbing inside the Primark store in Nottingham city centre on the 23rd February.

Police were called to the shop where a seventeen year old received non life-threatening injuries to the chest.

The teenager's admitted two charges of wounding without intent and possession of a bladed weapon in a public place.

He'll be sentenced next month.

Speaking to us, Nottinghamshire's Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden reassures the public that Nottingham is safe

"They are separate incidents. We are safe. "

"Yes it is safe. We've had three incidents which have concerned a lot of communities in Nottinghamshire.

"However, the police response has been utterly robust in these incidents.

"We are down on knife crime by 7%, we are down in terms of hospital admissions, and we've also reduced the young entrance into the criminal justice system by over 50%".

Nottinghamshire Police are asking anyone who suspects someone of carrying a knife or other weapon to call 101.
