Travel disruption following major blaze in Nottingham
A fire on Market Street, Nottingham, is causing travel disruption this morning.
Trams have been stopped in the centre of Nottingham as firefighters tackle a blaze at a residential property.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) urged people to avoid the area after a fire broke out at a building on Market Street late on Monday night.
Roads are partially closed on Upper Parliament Street, Lower Parliament Street, Market Street, King Street and Queen Street, while the Nottingham Tram has been stopped in both directions between Theatre Royal and Market Square.
In an update posted early on Tuesday morning, NFRS said: “Fire service crews remain on scene and are likely to be there for several more hours.
“Road closures and tram disruptions remain in place. Please avoid the area and find alternative routes if possible.”
Residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed.
A further NFRS update at 6am on Tuesday said that a reduced presence remained at the scene, with trams halted in both directions between Theatre Royal and Market Square.
“Roads in the area have been opened to one lane only, and we expect heavy traffic disruption this morning; please use alternative routes where possible,” the statement said.
“There have been no reports of any injuries at this stage, and a fire investigation is scheduled to take place later today.”
