Nottingham Forest have signed German goalkeeper Steven Benda on a one-year deal, with the club holding an option to extend his contract for a further year.

The 27-year-old was released by Fulham after failing to make a first-team appearance for the London club.

Benda spent part of his time at Fulham out on loan, with spells at two clubs. He first joined Championship side Millwall before moving to Feyenoord in the Netherlands, where he played during the second half of last season.

Forest say Benda will “add to the goalkeeping contingent at the club” and provide further competition within the squad.

Nottingham Forest Chief Football Officer George Syrianos said: “Steven is an experienced player who we feel will add depth and competition to our current group of goalkeepers.

“Steven is someone who we know will work hard every day to push his teammates to keep standards high at the training ground, and we are sure he will fit in with the strong culture we have at the club.”
