A man has been charged after a child was assaulted in Nottingham city centre last week.

It happened at the beach in Old Market Square just after 5pm on Friday 22 August when a man, unknown to the family, approached them.

Family members and a security team intervened and detained a suspect before police arrived and he was arrested.

Detective Sergeant Christophe Sutton, who is leading the investigation, said: “We know this incident would have been distressing for the family, however together with local security we have immediately detained a man who will now be presented before the courts.

“Any incident which involves the assault of another is treated extremely seriously and the public can rightly expect a robust response from us.”

Roshan Ramar, 26, of Eastham Close, St Ann’s, Nottingham, has been charged with common assault. He was bailed and is due to appear before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 12 September 2025.
