An elderly woman has been assaulted after she confronted her burglars in Newark.

The burglary is one of five break-ins that happened over the weekend (10th and 11th January).

Officers believe the incidents could be linked as the addresses were mostly owned by vulnerable people.

Glass windows were smashed each time, and the burglars managed to steal jewellery and cash.

The addresses targeted include:

  • a house in Hill Vue Gardens
  • two properties in Hawton Road
  • a property in Parkway
  • a property in Bowbridge Road (where an elderly woman was assaulted)

Detectives are investigating the incidents and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them by calling 101 and quoting incident 294 of 11 January 2026.

"...we’re determined to track down whoever was responsible. "

Detective Sergeant James Hirst from Nottinghamshire Police said: “I can only imagine how horrible it must’ve been for the victims to realise their homes had been burgled.

“That will have been doubly true for those who interrupted the break-ins while they were in progress, with one woman sadly being assaulted in the process.

“It really should go without saying but this type of behaviour is completely unacceptable, and we’re determined to track down whoever was responsible.

“Our team of detectives are in the process of investigating these burglaries and at this stage believe they could be linked.

“As such, we’d ask that anyone who thinks they might know who could’ve been involved shares this information with the police.

“We also want to hear from anyone who thinks they may have witnessed any of the incidents or inadvertently recorded them taking place on CCTV or doorbell cameras.”
