An investigation is underway after a man was stabbed in a city centre street.

A man in his 30s was attacked along Market Street, Nottingham, at about 11.50am today (Monday).

The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics and was taken to hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life-altering or life-threatening.

A scene is in place while investigation work takes place.

Detectives are urging witnesses to come forward and with any information they may have.

Chief Inspector Neil Humphris, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“This was an appalling act of violence carried out in full view of members of the public.

“A team of detectives is now working to understand exactly what happened in the moments before, during and after this incident.

“To this end they want to hear from anyone who saw or heard any part of what happened.

“We understand the concern incidents of this nature can cause and people should expect to see an increased police presence and while we investigate the circumstances.

“As in recent weeks, we will continue to maintain a high and visible presence in the city to provide reassurance and speak with anyone who has concerns.

“We recognise incidents like this cause concern and I would like to reassure the public that we are working every day to target people who carry weapons and to work proactively with groups to prevent offences from happening.

“As we have repeatedly said, this kind of violence is utterly unacceptable and we will do whatever it takes to bring perpetrators to justice.”
