A man - who was witness by police stabbing someone in Nottingham City Centre last year - has been jailed.

Job Murray, 27, was one of 15 men who were fighting on Maid Marian Way in the early hours of 27 October 2024.

Patrolling officers approached the group and saw Murray brandish a knife before stabbing someone in the torso. Murray then ran but police gave chase and tackled him to the ground.

The victim hasn't been identified and Murray denied stabbing anyone or carrying a knife in police interviews.

However, a jury found him guilty of attempted wounding with intent and possession of a knife in a public place following a trial.

He was later sentenced to 14 years in prison.

He was also sentenced for his part in another disorder, which happened two years earlier on 26 June 2022, after which he presented himself at the Queen's Medical Centre with stab wounds he claimed had come from falling down the stairs.

CCTV showed a fight had, in fact, taken place on Lower Parliament Street.

Murray, of Sandalwood Close, Alveston in Derby, pleaded guilty to affray in relation to the incident and three other men have already been sentenced for their part in the disorder.

Detective Chief Inspector Claire Gould, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The officers who pursued Murray showed immense bravery and determination in their actions.

“Despite observing Murray was not only armed with a knife but had stabbed another man, they pursued him and tackled him to the ground.

“This dynamic decision making detained a dangerous individual and helped prevent anyone else suffering injury.

“The case highlights again how carrying and brandishing a knife in Nottinghamshire can land you an extended period behind bars.

“Violent disorder of this nature has absolutely no place in our night time economy and will not be tolerated.

“I hope the vast majority of law-abiding people who come into Nottingham to enjoy a night out welcome our robust investigation and I’d like to thank all the officers who worked hard to secure this outcome in court.”

Murray was also sentenced for assaulting a man in Talbot Street on 24 August 2024.
