A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car late on Friday night (9 May) on Welford Road in Leicester.

The incident occurred at around 11.30pm near the junction with Almond Road. It is reported that the man, in his 20s, was crossing Welford Road close to Sandicliffe Ford when he was hit by a silver Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He later died in hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 50s, remained at the scene and has spoken to police. The circumstances of the collision remain under investigation.

Detective Sergeant Mike Streer, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Officers are currently reviewing CCTV in the area, but it is believed the driver of the Mercedes headed out of the city along Welford Road prior to the collision.

“Anyone who was also travelling along Welford Road in either direction is asked to contact us if they think they saw the car or have captured footage of the car on dash cam.”

Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time or who may have relevant dash cam footage to come forward.
