Teenagers arrested and machetes seized after e-scooter chase in Radford
Two arrests have been made
Two teenage boys were detained on suspicion of weapon possession after an attempted escape on an e-scooter led police officers to recover machetes.
The incident occurred on Alfreton Road, Radford at around 8.45pm on Monday, 15th June.
Firearms officers patrolling in an unmarked car spotted two people wearing balaclavas as they rode an electric scooter on the pavement.
They turned onto Churchfield Lane, prompting officers to activate their blue lights.
A short chase ensued after they attempted to flee.
The pillion passenger jumped off the e-scooter but was tackled by an officer pursuing on foot.
A short distance away, the e-scooter rider crashed after clipping the kerb, which led to his detention by officers moments later.
In searches conducted by officers, two machetes and cannabis were confiscated.
Police arrested a 16-year-old male on suspicion of carrying a knife in public, who has been released on conditional bail.
A 15-year-old male was detained for failing to stop, possession of Class B drugs, and driving offences without a licence or insurance alongside suspicion of carrying a knife.
He also currently remains on conditional bail.
Sergeant Lee Frith, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Officers were in the right place at the right time to detain these two suspected knife carriers and take weapons off our streets.
"We know the public are rightly concerned about people wearing balaclavas, carrying knives, and illegally riding e-scooters, which is why officers are working hard to crack down on this behaviour.
"Operation Arriving is in place to see a sustained reduction in criminality through proactive police work in Radford.
“However, the message is clear; knives ruin lives, and there is never any excuse for anyone to be carrying these weapons on our streets."
