Police have been able to use DNA to help sentence a former Loughborough taxi driver of serious sexual assault, which he committed almost 20 years ago.

Mahbubar Rahman, 50, raped a 19-year-old woman in 2006 - but was only found in 2022 when he was arrested on a separate matter.

Despite compelling DNA evidence linking him to the attack, he continued to deny the offence.

Rahman, of Jane Street, Chadderton, Greater Manchester, was found guilty following a trial at Leicester Crown Court last month.

He has now been jailed for 12 years.
