A man has been jailed after stabbing his housemate with a fishing knife in Leicester, leaving him with serious internal bleeding.
On 17 August last year, Lonel Cutitaru - also known as Ionel - was involved in a row with a man with whom he lived on Danvers Road. It was here where Cutitaru stabbed him in the back, injuring his liver, kidney, and diaphragm.
Cutitaru, 49, was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
He denied this and was found not guilty after a trial at Leicester Crown Court. However, the jury convicted him of grievous bodily harm with intent. He has since been sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in jail.
Detective Constable Olivia Palmer, the investigating officer, said: “This was an incident that could’ve had far more serious consequences and the victim is lucky to be alive.
“Though it was an isolated incident involving people known to one another, it does not excuse the fact that carrying a knife is something which will not be tolerated.
“We remain committed to tackling knife crime through our #LivesNotKnives campaign and will seek to bring those responsible for inflicting harm on others to justice.”
