A woman has been left seriously injured after being attacked in Leicester on Tuesday (24 June).

Officers were initially called to reports of a collision involving a single car, which was found overturned shortly after 5:30pm. It's believed the occupant left the scene and ran towards Aylestone Road where he attacked a woman passing by.

He was arrested at the scene.

The woman was taken to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham where her injuries are described as life-threatening.

Leicestershire Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area or who might have dashcam footage to get in touch.

A section of Aylestone Road remains closed this morning, but traffic is still able to pass by.
