A young man has been convicted of dangerous driving after filming himself speeding through red lights and uploading the video to social media.

Jack Slack, 21, reached speeds of up to 70mph while going through the traffic lights before speeding along Abbots Road and Beck Lane on 27 October 2024.

His video, which he posted to Facebook, was reported to police three days later.

Officers were able to trace the exact time and location of the offence by matching Slack's registered VW Polo to traffic data.

PC Dean Melbourne, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “It’s unusual that offenders convict themselves in this way, but that is exactly what Slack did when he chose to post this alarming and incriminating footage online.

“I can only assume he thought his actions were in some way worthy of boasting about. In reality, they placed multiple lives in danger – including his own.

“As he has just found out to his cost, we take an extremely dim view of this kind of behaviour – as do the courts.”

After initially pleading not guilty, Slack, of Markham Road, Beeston, later admitted dangerous driving.

He has been given an eight‑month prison sentence suspended for two years, banned from driving for 18 months, and ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work.

He will also need to pass an extended driving test should he wish to get behind the wheel again.
