Three people have died after a crash on the A46 yesterday.

Police were called to the scene at just after 1am where a blue BMW 5 series had left the road between Thrussington and Sileby. The call was made by a fourth person who was in the car at the time of the collision and suffered minor injuries.

A 37-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is in police custody.

Following the collision, the road was immediately closed in both directions. The northbound carriageway has since been re-opened.

The city bound carriageway remains closed for a full forensic investigation to be carried out today.

DC Madeleine Hayes from SCIU said: “This is a tragic incident with three people losing their lives."

“We know the car was travelling on the A46 from Nottingham. I’d like to speak to anyone who was driving in the area who may have witnessed events leading up to the collision."

“I would ask that people view their dashcam footage between 12.30am and 1.05am to help police with their enquiries."

“We are working to understand what led the car to leave the carriageway and any information from witnesses may be helpful in establishing this.”

Police are asking anyone with information to call 101, quoting incident 35 of the 13th of December.
