Police efforts in Gedling to target off-road nuisance bikers
Community concerns prompt increased police operations
A specialist police team in Gedling is intensifying its crackdown on nuisance bikers and antisocial behaviour in popular local areas.
Officers conducted an operation last Saturday, 26th September, focusing on persistent hotspots such as Gedling Country Park, Colwick Country Park, and the dirt track leading to Gunthorpe.
Nottinghamshire Police said further operations will take place to tackle the problem and provide safety advice.
Recent enforcement in Newstead resulted in the seizure of several off-road bikes.
Days of action have been ongoing since July, involving plain clothes and uniformed officers, leading to the seizure of two off-road bikes and charges against two teenage riders.
The riders were required to complete educational interventions to address their behaviour. Non-compliance can result in prosecution.
Also, in late August, a 14-year-old biker in Newstead had his bike seized and received a section 59 warning.
Inspector Steven King emphasized the community-driven nature of these operations. He said: "One of the most common issues reported to us is the illegal use of off-road bikes, e-bikes and e-scooters in public spaces.
"Acting on information provided by residents, officers have continued targeted enforcement activity, resulting in a number of vehicle seizures and positive action against offenders."
He added: "It is important to emphasise that these operations are driven by community concerns.
"Our aim is not to stop people enjoying their hobbies responsibly, but to address behaviour that causes danger, nuisance and distress to others."
