A win for Nottingham Forest will put them in the Europa League semi-final for the first time since 1984.

They welcome Porto to the City Ground for an 8 o'clock kick off tonight.

What have we learnt from the first leg?

Rich Ferraro hosts '1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast' and told us: "I think it is fair to say the first leg was a good result from a performance that was not great.

"Nonetheless, Forest did show some signs of promise, in a match they did not have to win. Of course, they managed to get back into the game by a fortunate own goal from the Portuguese side.

"Forest need to control the match and play some of their most important players such as Ibrahim Sangare," he said.

Ibrahim Sangare of Nottingham Forest

Rich told us: "Sangare has been the tempo setter for Forest in the middle of the park this season. If he is able to have a good match, I think Forest will be able to keep control and get a good result."

This comes amid a difficult run for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. They drew with Aston Villa on Sunday, who are also in Europa League action this evening.

Forest currently sit 16th in the Premier League table.

Vitor Pereira

Boss Vitor Pereira made nine changes from his preferred league XI in last week’s first leg and will again look to balance selection, with Sunday’s home game against Burnley in mind.

“We will try to keep going. We will try our best to keep going, with responsibility,” he said. “Trying to find a way to compete in both games is the only way I know.

“In this moment, I need to think about both games. It is important to balance the energy and to face Burnley in our best condition because it will be a tough game again.”

'A victory for the Reds...'

Rich said he believes the club’s luck may be starting to turn: "Things are looking so different to what they were three weeks ago. The Midtjylland victory, the Tottenham victory and the draw in Porto show that Forest aren't just going to get turned over.

"All being well, it should be a victory for the Reds. I cannot promise it will not go to extra time, and or penalties. Forest should feel confident about getting through to the semi-finals.

If Forest are successful, it will be their first European semi-final since 1984.
