Man arrested after flares thrown on pitch at Forest Europa League clash
The game had to be delayed
Police have arrested a man after flares were thrown on to the pitch and at home fans during Nottingham Forest's match against Turkish team Fenerbahce.
Nottinghamshire Police said they received reports that small flares were lit by supporters in the away end during the Europa League game at the City Ground on Thursday evening.
The match was delayed for several minutes in the first half to remove flares from the pitch.
Officers arrested a 37-year-old man after a missile was reportedly thrown by Fenerbahce fans towards the home end.
The force added that two other arrests, which are not connected to the flares being thrown, were made during the match.
A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a steward, while a 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of going on to the playing area at a designated football match, police said.
A section of seating in the away end was also found damaged after fans left the area at the end of the game.
Superintendent Louise Clarke, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: "We're currently investigating a series of reports from last night's match and are working closely with both clubs as part of this.
"This includes multiple reports of lit flares being thrown on to the pitch and at rival supporters.
"I can confirm one suspect has been arrested in connection with this, while two other people have been arrested on suspicion of separate offences too.
"Separate investigations are ongoing into each of these incidents, as well as wider reports of pyrotechnic use and criminal damage within the ground last night.
"As part of this, we will be analysing all available footage to help identify anyone who could have been involved."
Police are asking anyone with information to call 101, quoting incident 188 of February 26, or Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555111.
