Erewash Borough Council have decided to honour Britain's oldest surviving WW2 veteran with 'Freedom of the Borough'.

110-year-old Donald Rose is currently a resident at Ilkeston's Canal Vue Care Home.

The Council says a vote to honour the veteran with the title was backed unanimously.

They said the title is “in recognition of his service to the country”.

Donald was shot in the leg during the Normandy landings.
