Car flipped and six arrested in suspected Nottingham drink-driving incident
Police say the occupants had a lucky escape
Police have made a number of arrests after a car flipped in a suspected drink-driving incident in Nottingham.
Officers were called to Queens Drive in Nottingham where they found the car lodged between a barrier and a wall next to the River Trent.
The car reportedly lost control at Tottle Road before 6am on New Year's Day. One person was treated in hospital for a neck injury.
All the occupants of the car denied being the driver.
Four men – aged 27, 30, 26 and 23 – and two women – aged 23 and 24 – were all subsequently arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
Sergeant Adam Green, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Looking at the image of the car following this collision, it’s clear all those onboard were lucky to not have been seriously injured.
“After losing control and hitting a lamppost, the vehicle flipped onto its side and became lodged between a barrier and a wall right next to the River Trent.
“We’re still in the process of investigating exactly what happened here, but we strongly suspect whoever was driving this car was over the limit at the time.
“That decision to get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol or drugs puts all those on the roads at risk.
“Drink and drug-driving are incredibly serious offences, for the simple reason that they can lead to the worst consequences imaginable.
“We’ve arrested six suspects in connection with this incident but our inquiries are still ongoing, so we’d ask anyone who saw what happened to get in touch with us.
“We also want to hear from anyone who inadvertently recorded any dash-cam footage of the incident too.”
